Greek feta cheese disappear from Russian shelves

Rosselkhoznadzor restricted supplies to Russian meat and dairy products from Greece.

Russian veterinary authorities have banned Greek producers from purchasing in other countries the raw materials from which they manufacture products for the Russian market, "Rossiyskaya Gazeta" is quoted of writing, citing the statement of Rosselkhoznadzor spokesman Alexei Alekseyenko.

RSCN experts are unable to check the quality and safety of raw materials, and are therefore forced to limit the supply of dairy products from Greece altogether. For example, the milk used to make a mandatory component of Greek salad - feta cheese in Greece - comes from the south of Europe, the Balkan states and even from Germany.

According to Rosselkhoznadzor the importation of meat and dairy products from Greece will be limited starting from 15 July. The ban will be lifted after the Greek manufacturers will start to present explanations about the raw materials used.
